2010 Paralympics

Mark Profeta

Today is the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Paralympic games in Vancouver and I am excited to see how the United States does this year. But, being a big hockey fan, I cannot wait to follow the U.S. sledge hockey team at this year’s paralympics. I am always impressed with the skill they have and how fast they can move around the ice and control the puck all at once with just their arms. But, I am impressed with all paralympic and disabled athletes.

This past summer I had the opportunity to attend and volunteer at the Extremity Games, which is like the X-Games for athletes with disabilities, even though it may not seem like they have a disability when they are competing. Whether it was the rock climbing, wake boarding, or motocross the heart and skill the athletes displayed was nothing short of amazing. That is why it is always great to watch and support these sports and athletes because you get to see the true passion of the love of the sport come through, since that is why they are doing it. So get out there and support these programs and remember to cheer for the USA.
