Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO)

RGOThe RGO is designed to permit a reciprocal gait using a cable
coupling system which supplies trunk and limb support for the paraplegic individual.

Basically, the RGO consists of bilateral long leg braces (KAFO’s) with a rigid pelvic band and hip joints coupled by a cable enclosed in a conduit.  The thoracic extension provides trunk support and a longer lever arm.

Upper trunk, shoulder and arm muscles are used to successfully operate the orthosis.  Walkers or crutches are used for external support.
