Impromptu Amputee Beach Tips

Impromptu Amputee Beach Tips:
• If a prosthetic limb is left in a hot car, the heat can melt & warp the plastic.
• There are prosthetic limbs designed for use in water. After use, don't forget to turn the prosthesis upside down when rinsing. Water and sand can get trapped.
• There are protective covers meant to insulate a prosthesis from water, even when the prosthesis is totally submerged. The company ''Dry-Pro'' makes a good one.
• Some prosthetic limbs float in the water. I find this particularly humorous when I'm wearing one.
• Forearm crutches are often hollow and fill up with sand and ocean water.
• Crutches sink in the sand.
• It hurts to hop on sea shells.
• Salt makes metal things rust, so rinse well.
• People stare at you more if you are constantly looking around to see if people are staring at you.
• Residual limbs require lots of strong sunscreen (for healed limbs only)
• The ocean heals my body and my mind.
• Floating in water is liberating for me.
