Getting it straight

My typical day is out marketing in the healthcare field to physicians, therapists, hospitals, you name it.  Those who have anything do to with making decisions about Orthotics and Prosthetics - I target.  So I put a smile on and do my daily job and truly enjoy it.  I am also lucky, I wear two hats.  Sometimes I put on my PR hat and make friends in the community with organizations that help persons with various health issues/concerns and disabilities - this is my passion!!

I have been communicating for several years with a person who runs a local chapter for Scoliosis and although I receive her emails and have participated in her walk-a-thons, it wasn't until recently we became - well, what I would considered friends/collegues.  For both of us...our new found friendship has been like a breath of fresh air.  We both have the same interest and that is helping people.  She has spent the last 8 years creating a local chapter of the scoliosis association and has helped many people locally, but also has created a program to help people from foreign countries to receive help with their surgical needs. She has done ALL of this VOLUNTARILY.   Her passion runs deeper than a weekly paycheck.

Her empathy is apparent, because she too has scoliosis and has had several back surgeries and lives in constant pain.  However, the pain almost seems numbed by the support she is able to provide to others.   It is people like this I myself want to do whatever I can to help.  You truly see the pure compassion and devotion she has in helping people.

We talked last Friday and we both laughed with each other on the phone, complimenting each other about how much we really do genuinely care about what we do and how we help people.  I happen to get paid for doing it, which is a bonus, but I also do it from the goodness of my heart.

I am also excited because soon, we will be starting back the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Scoliosis Association and working together to help people in the community.
