Socket Replacements

The prosthetic component that requires the most frequent replacement is the socket.  The prosthetic socket, the component that the residual limb fits into, is based on a mold of the residual limb.  This component usually requires replacement every 1 to five years.  Replacement can also be required outside of this time frame.  Anatomy/condition change and irreparable damage are the most common issues that require a socket replacement.  This is also usually the most expensive component (unless microprocessor and/or myoelectric components are involved) because it's totally customized and labor intensive.
