Thanks, Internet, for my HC Debate Update
Earlier this year I went to Washington D.C. with the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) to lobby for prosthetic care coverage for amputees. It was amazing to meet face-to-face with politicians to explain the unique needs that people with limb loss have. Now, however, following the healthcare debate online (yes, I avoid television & yes, I think TV & the media are a big part of why we struggle as a society & NO, I couldn't restrain myself from jabbing the media once again) I feel more a sense of frustration and confusion than the dazzling exhilaration I felt in D.C. The overall larger healthcare debate is overshadowing the specific needs of amputees. Before we are 'amputees' we are 'people' and people in general are hanging in a delicate balance. I think everyone can agree on at least this, regardless of political affiliation. Right now I'm feeling pretty unaffiliated myself. I just hope they get this right... or even right-ish.
